NATURALLY LIT

a two week intensive online workshop to learn off-camera flash for on location portraits

with Carolyn Fong

NEXT SESSION: 6/17/24 TO 6/30/24

Upon registration, students will have to sign an agreement that states they understand that this class will not teach you how to use your specific gear. A suggested gear list of lighting stands & modifiers that support the use of the lights will be provided upon registration, but Carolyn will not be spending any time talking about how to connect the Speedlight to your camera. There are just too many brands/options to cover that. Students can reach out to their local camera stores, the big-name camera stores, google, or owners manuals to learn about how to get their lights to talk with their cameras.  You need gear ready to go in class on day one.

This class is HOW TO USE the gear you have.

Class Overview:

When you have to deliver images but you can’t control everything, you control what you can - including bringing an off camera flash or strobe head to create the light you want and need.  In this 2 week intensive workshop I will teach you about my go-to streamlined off camera flash set ups that are my go-to for editorial and family portrait sessions.

In this workshop, you will explore the many ways off camera flash can be integrated into your existing photographic style.  You will learn how off camera flash can help you create images on location in a way that will allow you greater freedom in scheduling, freedom from creating only when the weather is cooperating, freedom to allow your clients to stand, behave or act wherever they feel comfortable because you will no longer need them to stand only where the natural light is good!  As well be given opportunities to explore beyond your comfort zone and discover new ways to integrate off camera flash into your photography toolkit.

You will explore how off camera flash works and discover the many ways you can use this incredible tool to your advantage - for in-home, or outdoor family portrait sessions, for editorial or branding projects.  Off camera flash is invaluable for any project or assignment when there’s a limited budget (meaning - no assistant) and limited time - so you’ve just got to make it work with whatever is there when you arrive at the location.

This class is a great introductory dip into the fun of off-camera flash for photographers who are already comfortable with using their cameras in natural light settings & want to expand their tool kits.  Photographers should know how to use their DSLRs in manual mode.

Student Reviews:

“Before Naturally Lit, I had zero experience with OCF. Carolyn broke it down in a way that helped me understand how to implement flash into my workflow and how to have control over how it works. She is kind and engaging and has a love for the craft and teaching which came through in her classroom. I feel really lucky to have had the opportunity to learn directly from someone who so beautifully photographs naturally lit portraits. I'm excited about the new dimension this can bring to my image-making and am grateful to this class for showing me how.” - Ellen Shaw
